Fantasy

For the fantasy picture I decided to use a picture with a vivid reflection and then turn it upside down to give it that mystical feeling. I also put a lot of saturation on this picture and changed the hue to give it an unusual color scheme. Many layers are incorporated in this photo. I rummaged through old photos I had taken trying to find anything that looked magical or miraculous. When  I found some things I liked, I simply added a layer and added them to my background. Personally, I struggled with this assignment and I don't like my results very much. It kind of freaks me out and I found it hard to make it have a good vibe. I feel like the whole time I was trying to make it a perfect picture so I felt out of my comfort zone to make it look good and magical at the same time.

My main goal for the night time photos was to get good focus and to show contrast between light and dark. Getting good focus, however, was a lot harder than it sounds. These pictures could use more focus, but they were by far the best ones that I took. My goal for the one with glowsticks was to show the movement and for it to look abstract. I kept the shutter open for a while so that it would capture the glowsticks being spun around everywhere. Then I edited the picture so that it was completely black in the background because there were little spots of light coming through my window. Also, I made the color more of a blue color so that it would pop more. When I took the picture of the lamp post, the wind was blowing a bow across the side of it. The focus was poor so I cloned it out but left just a little bit right under the light. I made the photo black and white. Then I played around with photoshop and completely took out the trees and light pole. Aside from the focus, I am happy with my results.

My goal in this photo was to show a theme I and many other people care about which is same sex relationships. The picture, in my opinion gives off a vibe of courage and happiness. Although many people are unaccepting of gay people, these two men are perfectly fine with displaying something as simple and affectionate as holding hands. Honestly, I did not have a process for taking this picture. I was carrying my camera around one day and just happened to come across these two men as they got out of their car. My intentions to begin with were to find some homeless people, but when it came time to actually take the picture I realized that it was kind of awkward to ask them if I could take a picture of them and even more awkward to creep on them. I felt it was alright to creep for this picture, however, because I like the angle on this one. Instead of focusing on someone's face, I'm focusing on their hands and their matching outfits. As for editing, I simply just sharpened the photo and put a black and white effect on it. I had one picture where the background was blurred out to focus more on the men holding hands, but it didn't turn out how I had wanted it to. I like the results of this picture. It was completely serendipitous and I think that is why I love it.

The process I used for the portrait was simple yet took a lot of time to accomplish. I started first by finding a subject. Hanging out with friends one day, Collin willingly volunteered himself to be my guinea pig for the assingment. I took a solid black blanket to use as my background because I knew Collin wanted to incorporate some "sick threads." The lighting part of the portrait was the most difficult part. I orginally wanted to have some light come in from the window and use a mirror or white fabric to reflect the natural light but instead decided to cover the window completely with the blanket and use the room lighting and also a lamp to add extra light. Figuring out the angle I wanted to take the picture was a stuggle. I decided to take a picture from every possible angle of Collin's face in order to fix this. I wanted a closeup so that I could add some elements of photoshop, which I did with the picture on the right. I think the picture turned out great but after playing around a little with colors, I ended up really liking it in black and white. The black and white one is not as focused as the color one but I like it because it displays the fun that my friends and I all had acting like the paparazzi around Collin. If I could change one thing about my results, I wish that I would have chosen a lighter backdrop color or that I would have had Collin wear a lighter colored jacket. All and all I feel I was successful with the portrait.
